If you love classic cocktails, live jazz, and the charm of old-school South Philly, there’s a new spot you’ll want to know about. Palizzi Social Club—the legendary, members-only Italian social club—has transformed its second floor into an intimate martini bar called The President’s Room. Opening February 28, The President’s Room will serve as a pre-dinner cocktail lounge or a late-night stop for members looking to enjoy a martini, live music, and classic South Philly vibes.
An Exclusive Experience in a South Philly Landmark
Palizzi Social Club has been a staple of South Philadelphia’s Italian-American community for over a century. Originally founded by immigrants from Vasto, Abruzzo, the club provided a gathering space for socializing, networking, and community support. Chef Joey Baldino, who took over the club in 2017, is now bringing new life to the historic venue while preserving its deep-rooted traditions.
The President’s Room is designed to be cozy and intimate, with:
A five-seat bar
Eight tables for cocktails and conversation
A rotating martini list
Live jazz performances from a small stage
Classic antipasti offerings (no full food menu)
Retro decor, featuring gold curtains, cream velour banquettes, and vintage linoleum flooring
To get there, you’ll climb 15 red-carpeted steps behind the ATM in the foyer, past a velvet rope—adding to the club’s old-school mystique.
How to Get Access to The President’s Room
Like the downstairs restaurant, The President’s Room is members-only. However, even current members will need a special gold seal on their membership card to gain entry.
Here’s how it works:
Existing members (with at least two years of membership) can purchase a gold seal for $40, which is added to their $20 annual membership fee.
Seals can only be purchased on Thursdays and Sundays to streamline the process.
Memberships to Palizzi Social Club have been closed since June 2023, but new memberships will be available again in late May 2025—which will also grant access to The President’s Room.
Some tables can be reserved online, making it a little easier to secure a spot in this ultra-exclusive lounge.
