We needed work done to our vehicle. I dropped it off at the mechanic shop at 15th & Jackson and proceeded to walk home. On the way, I happened to notice something that I never noticed before. A donut shop in South Philly? One thing about South Philly Vinny that you might not know - I'm a donut aficionado and I'm always on the hunt for the best donuts in Philly.
Located at 15th & Snyder in South Philly, Okie Dokie Donuts have been around since 2020. The proprietor of the shop - Carol Ha has been making donuts as a side project since 2012. She's worked all around the city, including La Colombe, Martha, the Dandelion, and the Walnut Street Café. She decided to take it to another level and opened the shop. Her and her crew are serving up delicious, artisanal, small-batch donuts, which also happen to be gluten free. Per their website, they use their our own special mix of rice flour, tapioca starch, and potato starch. On top of having the shop with a walk up window in South Philly, they also provide donut catering services for events and wholesale service to local establishments.
I'm a sucker for an apple fritter. I had to give it a whack. Here it is below and just off of the look of it - super legit.
The fritter is more dense than I'm used to. This is due to the gluten free flour they use to concoct their donuts. But, it'really tasty. Using the One Bite scale, I give the apple fritter an 8.3. Sweet and delicious.
A great find on a rainy South Philly day.
