The motto of the brand new Bud's Barbershop on the SW corner of 16th & Ritner is simple: "walk in a stranger, walk out a friend." As someone who recently walked into the shop a complete stranger, I can wholeheartedly say that I walked out with a new friend Martin "Bud" Budinski. The haircut was smooth, he was very easy to talk to and turns out we have a lot in common as far as our backgrounds and love for music. The shop is a true snapshot of Bud's personality. The walls boast posters of Nine Inch Nails, Wu-Tang Clan, Nirvana, The Clash, Radiohead, David Bowie, an old school Nintendo system and a bunch of Philly sport memorabilia. For me personally, I have been looking for a Philly barbershop for years only to be disappointed in every shop that I went to. I no longer have to look any further.
Hailing originally from Western New York, Bud found his way to Philadelphia back in the mid 2000's. He worked in the music business at various venues around the city. He was always drawn to entrepreneurship and had a love for the barbershop experience. He cut his teeth as a barber at the shop right next to Angelo's Pizzeria called Burke and Payne Barber Co. After working at Burke and Payne for a few years, he decided to branch out on his own and open his own shop.
Bud's Barbershop opened its doors right before Thanksgiving 2022. Since the grand opening, Bud has had a lot of clients walk through the door. So much so that he is no longer a one man band. He is adding two new barbers to the payroll starting in March to keep up with the demand. A great step in the right direction.
